The simplicity of the form is particularly elegant, its exaggerated vertical proportions giving the vessel a remarkably sculptural quality.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnguentaria of this type were made to contain small quantities of \u003cstrong\u003eperfume, scented oils, cosmetics or medicinal preparations\u003c\/strong\u003e. The exceptionally long and narrow neck would have restricted the flow of liquid, allowing precious contents to be dispensed sparingly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe glass has undergone extensive natural weathering during burial. Its original pale green translucency is now overlaid with \u003cstrong\u003esilvery, golden and brown iridescence and areas of mineral incrustation\u003c\/strong\u003e, particularly concentrated across the rounded body. The resulting surface has considerable depth, changing in appearance according to the light.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe upper mouth is \u003cstrong\u003efragmentary, with losses to the original rim\u003c\/strong\u003e, while the body and exceptionally long neck survive substantially intact.
